Scarborough Fair原是一首古老(大约作于十三世纪)的苏格兰民间谜歌(riddle song)。这首歌出自电影《毕业生（The Graduate）》。原唱Simon 和 Garfunkel。歌曲以一位战火中阵亡士兵的口吻唱出，他再也不能回到那朝思暮想的家乡，再也不能与心上人一同享受生活.......
当一个人为了爱情去尝试明知不可能的事情，才最能表明他（她）对爱情的忠贞。而欧芹、鼠尾草、迷迭香和百里香这四种植物则在中世纪时的欧洲分别代表善良、力量、忠诚和勇气，这也是歌者对姑娘的期望。于是，歌者用这四种在中世纪众所周知的植物，期望他的心上人能够用爱的温柔来消融他们之间的误会和痛苦，用毅力来度过他们分离的艰难时光，用忠诚来陪伴孤独的日子，用勇气去挑战那些不可能的事情并最终回到他的身旁。
不管歌者最初的动机是什么，歌曲那独特的词句和优美的旋律使得她永远地和爱情联系在了一起。《Scarborough Fair》作为上个世纪最著名、最成功的民歌之一，必定将永远地在人们心中回响，不断勾起我们那些或忧伤或欢乐的回忆。
